About the Project ECOGAGE
ECOGAGE – Engaging Critical Thinking for Sustainable Living is a European learning project funded by Erasmus+.
It brings together organisations from Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, and Portugal to explore one central question:
How can adults make sense of sustainability claims — and turn them into informed, realistic everyday decisions?
Instead of prescribing “the right behaviour”, ECOGAGE focuses on something more empowering:
helping people understand, question, and decide for themselves.
The idea behind ECOGAGE
Sustainability information is everywhere — but clarity is not.
Adults are constantly confronted with labels, headlines, recommendations, and promises that sound convincing, yet often contradict each other.
ECOGAGE was created to address this confusion.
The project supports adults in developing critical thinking skills that help them:
- assess sustainability-related information more confidently
- recognise myths, simplifications, and hidden assumptions
- understand the consequences of everyday choices without pressure or moral judgement
The aim is not perfection — but better-informed decisions that actually fit real life.
The Approach
ECOGAGE combines educational research with interactive digital learning formats designed specifically for adults.
The project develops:
- fact-based information sheets that unpack common sustainability myths and claims
- interactive animation videos where learners make choices and immediately see their environmental, social, and financial consequences
- a Virtual Sustainable Household, an online environment where users can explore everyday decisions — such as energy use, consumption, or waste — and experiment without risk
All materials are created for adult learners and educators and will be available as Open Educational Resources (OER), free to use and share.
